CARLA RICCIARDONE- DOHERTY
My mom is responsible for my first yoga class. I was always resistant to well most things exercise related, but she pulled the “Mom Card,” one of her four allotted for the year and to class with her I went because she thought “it would be good for me.” Turns out, she was more than right, though, don’t tell her I told you so.
A few days after that first class in 2010, I wandered into my first teacher training, with Jivamukti Yoga and I had no idea what I wandered into at the time or how lucky I would be. See, what I had found was more than what is considered the most prestigious teacher training out there…I found myself.
I continued with Jivamukti training, finishing my apprenticeship with Kumiko "Kumari" Devi." She taught me to find my words, to reach a student, and to shine from within. I owe her so much and I’ll forever be grateful of her kindness (as it’s as rare as the woman who possesses it). Eight hundred hours later, I was ready.
So that, in essence, was the beginning.
Yoga changed my world and now my life is spiraling into something beyond my wildest dreams. The middle includes my dabbling, floundering, falling gracefully, embarrassing myself, and finding my humanity under a very solid rock (ego). All in all, hopefully, providing my students, friends, and family with access to my adventure. I taught classes where and whenever they asked, used a few as Guinea-pigs, continued my training and education, prepared myself for student questions, worked constantly, smiled always, gave the best possible experience to my students, and I was rewarded. Soon my students became my friends and my family, one of them now my Husband John. From them, I learned being on the right path in life has a way of showing you. You never walk without stumbling, instead you’re caught by caring arms when you do.
